Dutch Journalist Arrested Crossing Greece-Turkey Border with Refugees

A Dutch journalist; who was reporting on Syrian refugees who had crossed into the country via Turkey, has been arrested in Greece.
Sakir Khader; a reporter with current affairs show Brandpunt in the Netherlands, was detained on Monday morning at the border area between Greece and Turkey.
Khader had joined a group of about 50 Syrians, including women and children, as they crossed a small river that separates the border between the two countries.
He was detained; along with the refugees, by Greek police, reportedly on charges that he had trespassed into a military zone.
His deputy editor on the show said that the area he was arrested on is not marked as off-limits. He said that filming there recently, they found no sign forbidding entrance to the area.
The reporter carried with him two Dutch press cards but the Greek police apparently didn’t think they were genuine. Khader’s sister, Diana, said that the officers detained him because of his Arab appearance.
Khader appeared before a judge on Tuesday and was told to await possible charges while remaining in police custody.
