Student Attacked by Mob at Athens University

An unknown group of assailants attacked and injured two people in the library of the Athens University of Economics and Business in the latest incident of violence on a university campus.
According to the University’s Senate, the attack occurred at 8pm on Tuesday, when the group attacked a student as he was leaving the library. A library staffer who tried to protect the student was also set upon by the mob.
“Such acts are reminiscent of black moments in our history, and it is our duty to expel them from our communities and university campuses,” a statement from the university said.
It added that “such terrible events are aimed at destabilizing the public university and diverting it from its smooth academic and democratic functioning.”
The university has appealed for eye-witnesses to come forward to assist in identifying the assailants.
In comments to Kathimerini, academics indicated that the assailants belong to far-left groups that have occupied parts of the campus.
A few days ago, a student with disabilities was also attacked by a group at the same university.
