Syrian Jihadist Arrested in Northern Greece


A 30-year-old man suspected for being a fighter of the Isis Jihadist Group; was arrested on Thursday in the northern Greek town of Alexandroupolis.
According to local news sources, the man confessed that he actively took part in ISIS’s operations in Syria.
Greek police say that he has lived in a number of Greek cites, including Athens and Thessaloniki. He has recently moved to Alexandroupolis in order to claim asylum at the local immigration office.
The suspect and his family had reached Greece last year, arriving on the Aegean island of Leros in June 2016. They have been living in Thessaloniki at a refugee camp but also had a flat in Athens.

Police say that after his arrest on Thursday he attempted suicide using his shoestring. He was transferred to a local hospital for treatment.
He is expected to be taken to a prosecutor later on Friday.
Counter-terrorism officers are trying to map out his movements in Greece.
They have raided the apartment he was staying at in Athens, where they found containing photographs of him holding various types of weapons.
