British Prime Minister Theresa May has thanked dozens of thousands of Greek expats who live in the United Kingdom and asked them to stay, despite the Brexit.
In an interview with Greek newspaper Ta Nea, that was published on Friday, the British premier expressed her gratitude to about 70,000 Greeks who have made England their home, and their contribution to the English economy and culture, whether they work or study there.
May said that Greek expats should remain in the UK even after its exit from the European Union. She also said the rights of all EU citizens are among her prime concerns in the Brexit negotiations with Brussels.
The British premier acknowledged the problems created to EU citizens by Britain’s secession from the EU, saying, “the referendum has caused some uncertainty and this is why we have rendered the issue of citizen rights a top priority in negotiations.” She added that her prime targets are to ensure that all EU citizens will be able to live as before.
At the same time, May praised Greece’s beauty saying that, “Greece with its rich history and beautiful coastline will always be a popular destination for millions of British tourists.”
