Two gunmen were foiled in their attempt to rob a mini market in Palaio Faliro, south of Athens, when one of the suspects was disarmed by employees and passerbys.
The attempted robbery occurred during the early hours of Tuesday morning.
The robbers entered the shop, and by threatening with Kalashnikov assault rifles demanded the money.
The owner of the shop together with an employee resisted; even passerbys intervened to help, and a major fist-fight erupted.
In the course of the fight one of the assailants fired his Kalashnikov a number of times without causing any injury, but the second assailant managed to escape.
Police arrested the robber and have launched a manhunt for the second suspect who remains at large.
