Tom Kapinos’ ‘White Famous’ Premieres on Showtime

“White Famous”, a new series that was co-created by “Californication” writer Tom Kapinos and Jamie Foxx, just premiered on Showtime this past Sunday, October 15.

The series focuses on black comedian Floyd Mooney (Jay Pharoah from “SNL”), a talented and fast-rising young comic who is dealing with Hollywood while trying to become “white famous”, aka popular among white people as well as black people.

Though the show is loosely based on events in Jamie Foxx’s life, star Jay Pharoah says he immediately connected to the character of Floyd, as he’s faced some of the same dilemmas and challenges as well.

Tom Kapinos and Jamie Foxx are both executive producers on the show, and Foxx will be appearing in a recurring guest role on the series as well.

When talking about his initial meeting with Foxx to discuss the show, Kapinos said “It was hilarious. We had an hour-and-a-half meeting and it was like a one-man show.”

The show is not all about work and entertainment though; Mooney also has a child he is co-parenting with his ex-girlfriend Sadie (Cleopatra Coleman), who also happens to be the love of his life. Kapinos commented on this aspect of the show balancing out Mooney’s character, saying, “beyond a comedian wanting to be successful, he has a woman he loves and he has a kid with her, and it’s about trying to balance all that.”

“White Famous” is on at 10 PM ET/PT on Sundays on Showtime.
