16-Year Old Girl Accomplice in Greek Businessman Kidnapping

A 16 year old girl arrested by police in connection to the kidnapping of Michalis Lempidakis in Crete, was released on bail by a prosecutor.
The girl testified that she was ordered by her father; one of the main suspects in the case, to assist the gang by offering services such as buying or renting payphones and sending packages and letters to the Lempidakis family.
According to local media, the girl said that she was forced to engage in criminal activity because of the dire economic situation her family was in. “My family was living on 1,500 euros per month”, she said.
She added that she was under strict instructions by her dad “not to touch anything”, and “not to answer questions”.
She claimed that she felt “strange” about these instructions, but she did not think it was a good idea to ask her father why she had to behave this way.
The prosecutor released the young woman on bail and issued a ban on foreign travel. She has also been ordered to check in to the local police station once a month.
Overall, 12 suspects have been arrested so far regarding the kidnapping.  Greek police have launched a manhunt for another 5 people who are also thought to be involved in the case.
