President Pavlopoulos: Macedonia's Hellenity Undeniable

President of Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos referred to an excavation of major archaeological importance which will contribute to the understanding of the history of the ancient Macedonian Kingdom and will give us more evidence on the already totally documented Hellenity of Macedonia, he said in statements immediately after his visit and tour to the excavation at Kasta Hill in Amphipolis on Sunday.
Pavlopoulos underlined the huge importance of the excavation which, as he said, is recognised by the Greek and the foreign scientific community adding that it will assist in the understanding of the Macedonian Kingdom and in parallel the new findings certify the already documented hellenity of Macedonia. «We wish the works to resume as soon as possible”.
The Greek president took a tour of Kasta Hill with alternate chief of Antiquities Ephorate of Serres Pinelopi Malama and the architect responsible for the restoration works Mihalis Lefantzis. Pavlopoulos was briefed on the course of the digging and afterwards underlined the need the excavation to continue.
Pavlopoulos was accompanied by Deputy Interior Minister responsible for Macedonia and Thrace Maria Kollia-Tsaroucha, regional governor Apostolos Tzitzikostas.
Earlier, Pavlopoulos was declared a honorary citizen of Amphipolis.
