Independent Greeks Now in Favor of Gender Reassignment

While initially being totally against gender reassignment, junior coalition partners Independent Greeks (ANEL) will now vote in favor of the bill.
The bill says that any individual can change the sex on their birth certificate, based on how they feel.
ANEL MP Thanassis Papachristopoulos announced to the Committee on Public Administration, Public Order and Justice of the Greek Parliament, that his party is in favor of the draft law of the Ministry of Justice, Transparency and Human Rights titled “Legal Recognition of Gender Identity – National Mechanism for the Development, Monitoring and Evaluation of Action Plans on Children’s Rights.”
Papachristopoulos pointed out that, “We, as ANEL, vote for the bill in principle.  But we clarify two things.  What I will say is ANEL’s opinion and my personal one and no one has imposed this opinion on me.  We are against adoption by homosexual couples.  We also say no to the second gender change because this can mean adoption.  I know that these are issues that we will deal with at another meeting, when we discuss the articles, but we as ANEL want to point them out by saying that we will give a positive vote in principle.”
Main opposition leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis said that New Democracy MPs will vote against any bill even if they agree with it, unless the two coalition partners both agree.  The same line is followed by the Democratic Coalition (PASOK-DIMAR).
To Potami is in favor of the bill on gender reassignment.  The Greek Communist Party Golden Dawn and the Centrists Union, said they will vote against it.
