More than 2,700 Migrants Arrived in Northern Aegean Islands in September


Nearly 450 migrants and refugees landed on the  Greek islands of the northern Aegean over the last three days, bringing the total number of registered arrivals in September up to 2,755.
The recent arrivals include 214 people that arrived at the reception centres of Lesvos, 127 persons on Chios, 89 on Samos; and a further 35 people arrived on Thursday morning, but they have not been registered yet.
The latest spike of arrivals has significantly raised the numbers reaching the northern Aegean islands in the first 20 days of September.  Apart from today’s new arrivals, 1,619 people arrived on Lesvos, 405 on Chios 405 and 731 on Samos, bringing the total to 2,755.
An announcement made on The Turkish Coast Guard website, states that between 1-20 September, 51 boats carrying 2,132 refugee and migrants which had not yet exited Turkish territorial waters, had been turned back to the Turkish coast.
