Cyprus President Anastasiades Talks 72 UNGA Agenda

Cyprus President Anastasiades arrived in New York on Monday afternoon to participate at the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly and hold meetings with foreign leaders.
Mr. Anastasiades held a short press conference upon his arrival and discussed his latest stand on the Cyprus issue as well as informed journalists on his agenda for this important trip.
He said that the the Greek Cypriot side is ready to negotiate for a solution in Cyprus within the framework of the parameters set by the UN Secretary-General on June 4.
These are, Mr Anastasiades said, “the termination of the Treaties, intervening rights, and a timetable for terminating the presence of occupying Turkish troops.”
“I express our determination to continue the dialogue based on the UN resolutions and, of course, as a Member State of the European Union we are seeking a solution based on the principles and values of the European Union”, he stressed.
He cautioned however about the prospects of a new initiative by the UN General Secretary. “I do not believe that the Secretary-General will at this moment decide [on a new initiative]”.
Asked about his scheduled meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of China on Tuesday, the President of Cyprus said that “China could be quite helpful in terms of the further process of the Cyprus question”, but warned that “any new initiatives regarding the Cyprus issue should be well prepared”.
