Heartbreaking Images After Environmental Disaster in Salamis Island

The island of Salamis in the Saronic Gulf, south of Athens, is faced with an environmental disaster, following the sinking of a small taker carrying tons of fuel, on Sunday.
Many beaches on the island are now coated with black fuel, and specialized crews are trying to limit the damage.

The Agia Zoni II tanker was carrying 2,570 tons of fuel.
Greek authorities are still investigating the causes of its sinking.

Two crew members that were aboard the ship when it sank, were safely rescued.
The tanker’s captain and engineer were arrested on charges of negligence, but later released on bail.
