Eurobasket: Greece Faced with Winner-Takes-it-All Clash Against Poland

Greece suffered a humiliating defeat 89-77 by Finland in Eurobasket in Helsinki on Tuesday evening.
Finland – ranked 32nd in the world – led comfortably throughout the encounter until Greece, who only recently fell out of the top 10, mounted a late fightback in vain.
Petteri Koponen and Lauri Markkanen starred for the Group A hosts with 24 and 17 points respectively, leaving their opponents to face a make-or-break clash with Poland in their final group fixture.
The hosts led by up to 20 points early in the second half (56-36). The typical Greek comeback cut the arrears up to four points (69-65) and then again to six (80-74), but in both cases the Greek momentum was interrupted by unsportsmanlike fouls that gave the Finns the chance to pull away again.
If Greece does beat Poland to qualify after all, it will face the winner of the Wednesday game between Lithuania and Germany in the last 16.
