After Alexander Payne‘s “Downsizing” premiered at the Venice Film Festival to very positive reviews, Paramount decided to release the first teaser trailer for Payne’s futuristic comedy.
You can watch the full trailer, starring Matt Damon and Kristen Wiig, above, and get a taste of the film’s plot.
Damon and Wiig star as a couple living in the near future who have to make the decision as to whether to “downsize” themselves to miniature size or not, for both economic and environmental reasons.
Though the film tackles some pretty big questions, it retains Payne’s signature comedic, quirky tone and focuses on close character studies. Top actors including Christoph Waltz, Neil Patrick Harris, Laura Dern, and Jason Sudeikis also make appearances in the film.
The director has previously emphasized that though “Downsizing” takes place in the near future and features special effects not usually present in Payne’s films, his fascination with the human condition is still very much present in the story.
“Downsizing” will be released across US theaters on December 22, 2017, so keep an eye out for the film’s release in a theater near you this winter.
