Drone Footage Captures Destruction Caused by Wildfires North of Athens

Harrowing drone footage has captured the devastating aftermath of the enormous wildfire in Greece that raged for three days before firefighters finally contained the flames on Wednesday.
Dozens of houses and thousands hectares of forest land were destroyed by the ravenous blaze which began Sunday in the coastal town of Kalamos, approximately 45 kilometers northeast of Athens.
Incredible drone footage captured the aftermath of the destruction caused by the wildfires. It shows acres of scorched earth, with trees reduced to cinders and houses destroyed.
The drone lingers over villas which were severely damaged by the inferno.
Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras visited one of the worst affected areas Wednesday. He declared that Greece had “avoided the worst” but that “we have to be alert.”
He also noted that the damage to forest land was significantly less than that wreaked by the devastating blazes of 2007, when a conservative administration was in power, a comment that prompted much criticism from the political opposition and on social media.
