David Letterman will be back with his own show on Netflix, as he has just signed a contract to star in a six-episode series for the streaming service.

The legendary host retired from his duties as a late night talk show host on CBS two years ago, but it appears retirement has left him feeling a bit bored. Letterman jokingly stated “I feel excited and lucky to be working on this project for Netflix. Here’s what I have learned, if you retire to spend more time with your family, check with your family first”.

Letterman’s new show will be an hour long, in which hour the host will have conversations with a different guest on each episode.

Fans of David Letterman will have to wait until 2018 for the series’ premiere. Ted Sarandos commented on Letterman’s move to Netflix and the different format of the proposed series, saying “I can’t wait to see him out in the wild, out from behind the desk and interviewing the people he finds most interesting”.

Letterman’s career on late night TV has spanned 33 years, making him the longest running broadcaster in US history, or according to chief content officer Sarandos, a “true television icon”.
