Attica Museums and Archaeological Sites Will be Open Over the Weekend, Workers Call Off Strike

Museums and archaeological sites in Attica will be open over the weekend, as the union of the Ministry of Culture employees (POE-YPPO) decided to call off a strike they had announced for Saturday and Sunday.
The union reached the decision after a meeting of POE-YPPO representatives with Minister of Culture Lydia Koniordou on Wednesday.
“The Minister approached the demands raised by the (Ministry of Culture) Panhellenic Workers’ Federation responsibly via an extrajudicial way, by launching specific actions addressing the long-term issues of concern to the employees,” the union statement said.
The union had initially called the strike over demands regarding a series of issues including funding matters, the hiring of 22 archaeologists and 200 antiquities guards and worker rights.
