Greek Documentary ‘Ludlow’ Wins Special Jury Award in Festival (video)

The Greek documentary “Ludlow, Greek Americans in the Coal War” won the Special Jury Award in the “Workers Unite! Film Festival 2017,” which was held in New York.

“Congratulations! We are pleased to tell you that your film won the Special Jury Prize for 2017, the festival announcement said. “The showing of your film at the festival was a great joy for us and we hope to host your work in the future as well.”

The festival is funded by the City University of New York (CUNY) with the participation of many trade unions.

The production of the documentary was made by the non profit company Apostolis Berdebes, an organization that aims to study and promote the history and culture of the Greek American Community.

The documentary, which has earned a total of four film awards, tells the story of Greek immigrants who arrived in distant Colorado at the beginning of the last century to work under inhumane conditions in Rockefeller mines and other coal companies and along with thousands of others they revolted by taking arms to defend their lives and their rights.
