German FinMin Optimistic About a Compromise Deal Between Greece and Creditors

German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble on Tuesday appeared confident that Greece and its international creditors will reach a compromise deal this week, Reuters says.
Speaking ahead of the meeting of euro zone finance ministers on Thursday, the German official said that the two sides will reach a deal that would pave the way for more bailout cash for Greece.
“We’ll manage it on Thursday. You’ll see,” Schaeuble said during a panel discussion in Berlin, according to Reuters.
However, the contentious debt relief issue will be left for later, much to the dissatisfaction of the Greek government. Debt easing that would temper the austerity measures required has been the goal of Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras for months now. However, Berlin insists that the debt issue will be discussed again after the end of the bailout program in August 2018.
On the other side, the International Monetary Fund demands from European institutions to ease the Greek debt as a condition for the Fund’s financial contribution to the bailout program.
The Schaeuble statement implies that Europe and the IMF will compromise and agree to conclude the second evaluation of the Greek bailout program.
