Number of Unemployed Reduced by 98,000 as Tourist Season Starts in Greece

The number of registered unemployed is reduced by almost 98,000 in April as the tourist season started in Greece, according to the Greek Statistical Authority (ELSTAT).
Compared to March, the number of jobless Greeks registered in the unemployment office (OAED) is reduced by 97,965 people in April. The total number of registered unemployed in OAED in April is 970,328, reduced by 22,318 compared to the same month in 2016.
ELSTAT analysts attribute the change in the beginning of the tourist season, saying that it is a seasonal phenomenon that happens every year in the months of Spring. Also, it is attributed to a number of welfare projects to boost employment.
It is characteristic that even the subsidized unemployed fell by 25,341 in one month, with almost one in eight unemployed receiving the significantly lower allowance, i.e. 116,085 in April, against 141,426 in March.
