Turkey needs to commit itself “unequivocally” to good neighborly relations and avoid tensions with the EU member states, stated a EU representative in Brussels.
Asked on the Turkish violations in the Aegean European Commission spokesperson Maja Kocijancic said that Ankara must respect the sovereignty of EU member states over their sea and airspace, according to EurActiv website.
The same official noted the need to avoid negative statements that hurt the good neighborly relations adding that “High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mongherini, during the unofficial meeting of the EU Foreign Ministers on April 28, gave a reminder that the good neighborly relations constitute one of the fundamental principles which Turkey is called to respect as candidate country.”
