Original Works by Contemporary Greek Artists to Sell in Museums and Archaeological Sites Around Greece

Original works by contemporary Greek artists will be put on sale in the country’s museums and archaeological sites under a deal signed on Wednesday between the Visual Arts Chamber of Greece and the Archaeological Receipts Fund (ARF), which manages the sites and museums.
The deal aims to promote the work of Greece’s contemporary artists, with both original artwork, reproductions and faithful copies made available for sale in museum and site shops.
The next step in the agreement is to draw up the tenders and invitations of interest that will cater to the needs of individual museums and sites.
Implementation of the agreement will be supervised by a team of four representatives, two from each of the signatory parties, while the artwork will be selected by a seven-member committee with members from the Visual Arts Chamber, the ARF and an artist representing the culture ministry.
“The agreement comes at a difficult time for art, artists and the people. It comes to highlight our cultural heritage through the eyes of contemporary artists. On the other hand, this agreement will, if implemented, provide breathing room for artists, offering their work to Greek and foreign visitors at affordable prices. Authentic artwork, by Greek artists, will travel throughout the world and to every corner of the Earth, as contemporary messengers of our people’s culture and traditions,” the Visual Arts Chamber of Greece said.
