During a two-hour long raid at the Souda migrant camp, police remanded at least 10 people, sources have reported.
Riot police and drug enforcement officers were among the authorities who entered the camp on the Aegean island of Chios at 7:30 am Tuesday morning and searched migrants’ tents looking for weapons and drugs as tensions have risen between different ethnic groups in the camp, particularly between Algerian and Afghan migrants.
The Greek newspaper Kathimerini reported that police are anticipating arresting at least three people following the discovery of knives and other contraband objects in some of the tents.
