Tom Hanks Will Produce HBO Series on 2016 Election

Tom Hanks will help produce an HBO miniseries based on the contentious 2016 election race between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.

The series will be based on a soon-to-be-published book by Mark Halperin and John Heilemann. The two authors were also responsible for the work that inspired the film “Game Change”, which focused on John McCain and Sarah Palin in the 2012 election.

The authors’ film “Game Change” won five Emmys and starred Julianne Moore and Ed Harris; with a pedigree like that, it is likely that the new HBO election miniseries will also attract A-list talent and award attention.

Jay Roach, the director of “Game Change”, has already been tapped to helm the new dramatic HBO series.

Hanks has already worked with HBO in order to produce “Band of Brothers” and “The Pacific”; this new series will cement his already close relationship with the channel.

When asked what HBO hopes to accomplish with the series, president of HBO films Len Amato stated that the series will “vividly capture the most unique and impactful event in modern American politics”.

Audiences can expect several TV and film works regarding the 2016 election and Trump’s surprise win to come out soon, including a competing miniseries by the creators of “Zero Dark Thirty”, and an election focus for the new season of “American Horror Story”.
