European Commissioner to Visit Athens on Wednesday to Aid in Greece-Creditors Talks

European Commissioner for Economic and Financial Affairs Pierre Moscovici is scheduled to visit Athens on Wednesday to aid in bailout program review talks between Greece and creditors.
The European official is expected to meet with Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos in an effort to unblock negotiations between the two sides.
Athens and lenders are at a standstill since mid-December, after Greece’s delay in implementing prerequisites for the second review of the bailout program. Nevertheless, Greece aims at rushing talks to complete the review before the end of February so that it qualifies for the European Central Bank quantitative easing program and the disbursement of the next loan tranche.
On Friday, Greece’s international lenders presented Greece with certain proposals for fiscal measures amounting to 3.6 billion euros. If Greece accepts to legislate the measures, lenders’ representatives will return to Athens immediately to resume negotiations.
The Greek government has branded the measures “irrational” and has not replied to creditors yet.
