Netflix Showcases Content at 2017 Sundance Film Festival

Ted Sarandos

Netflix entered the 2017 Sundance Film Festival with plenty of content to showcase, and left in an even stronger position, having acquired many of the festival’s most talked-about films.

Ted Sarandos had already picked up several films prior to the festival’s opening night; as he stated, “we acquired films ahead of Sundance so that we could really showcase them at the festival”.

The streaming giant’s content included six films and two documentary series, including the sci-fi film “The Discovery”, and the documentary “Casting JonBenet”, both of which are set to premiere in the spring.

During the festival, Sarandos and his company picked up international rights to the closing night film of the 2017 Sundance Film Festival – “The Incredible Jessica James”.

Sarandos was thrilled with this big win, stating “we are honored to get to work with Jim Strouse as we introduce film lovers around the globe to ‘The Incredible Jessica James,’ which marks the arrival of Jessica Williams, a true star in the making.”

Look out for Netflix and other streaming services to play an even bigger role in these prestigious international film festivals as streaming services continue to increase in popularity.
