The farmers will block the Argyropoulio junction with their tractors, as the first action of a long series of protest moves.
At the same time, farmers of the Imathia region in Central Macedonia are gathering at Kouloura junction and cross sections outside Veroia.
“We will take our tractors to the Kouloura junction. Members from all viallges of Imathia will join us. We will start from there towards Forou steet, outside the city of Veroia. From there we will take our tractors and agricultural vehicles to the central square of the city,” stated the president of the Rural Association of Veroia Farmers and member of the organizing committee of mobilizations, Tasos Chalkidis to Macedonia Press Agency.
“We start the mobilization for the difficult days ahead for rural people. We can’t take it anymore. We cannot cope with these taxes and costs, it is a matter of survival,” he added.
According to the representative of Imathia, farmers will gather at the central square in Veroia central square at 11:00 am and will meet with all city agencies. “All institutions and professionals understand that we are at an impasse, and they are on our side. It is a demonstration where all the city will participate,” Chalkidis said.
After the city gathering, farmers will take their tractors back to the Kouloura junction where they will decide on further actions.
Further farmer meetings will take place in Central Macedonia on Tuesday, following a decision taken by the Panhellenic Coordinating Committee of Farmers, Stock Breeders and Fish Farmers in Katerini.
