During the World Economic Forum in Davos this week, Christine Lagarde, the managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), reportedly told German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble that her organization plans to stay engaged in the bailout talks for Greece.
The announcement was made public on Friday by a spokesperson for Schaeuble at a government news conference.
Over the past week the German Finance Ministry has had to defend its position and deny allegations that it was planning to go ahead with a bailout program for Greece without the IMF, as reported by the German newspaper Bild.
