Tsipras-Anastasiades Agree on Common Actions on Cyprus Issue

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and Cypriot President Nikos Anastasiades on Friday agreed on specific joint actions on an international and European level on the Cyprus issue.
The two leaders met in Athens ahead of the crucial peace talks in Geneva on January 12. The meeting lasted three hours.
Cypriot government spokesperson Nikos Christodoulides said that Tsipras and Anastasiades had a constructive meeting and came to a “complete common understanding on essential issues and the process.”
Christodoulides further said that the two sides decided on a “common goal through initiatives being taken to end the occupation and reunite Cyprus as a modern European country, without foreign guarantees and occupying armies.”
Before Geneva, the two leaders will meet with European Union top officials. In addition, Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias will have meetings with UN officials in New York, and Cypriot Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides will have contacts with EU officials on the decisions made.
Also, prior to Geneva, the Greek prime minister will meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
