One Dead, Power Outages, Traffic Problems Mark Heavy Snowfall in Greece

The harsh weather conditions of the past 24 hours in Greece have left one man dead, power outages and traffic problems in many areas.
On Thursday afternoon a 76-year-old man in Iasmos in the Rhodope region was killed when heavy winds ripped off the door of a business and the door hit him.
The heavy snowfall and winds caused long black outs in several areas. The power substation in Karystos suffered damages from the heavy storms and failed to provide power to several islands.
Specifically, the islands of Andros, Tinos and Mykonos were left without electricity for several hours. The same happened to some areas on Crete as well, specifically in Heraklion and Rethymnon.
Increased demand for power affected the grid and caused minor outages in other rural areas.
In Athens, heavy snow blocked urban railroad and bus routes to the northern suburbs for several hours. Also, parts of national thoroughfares were closed for hours.
