According to the BBC, the mayors of Athens, Mexico City, Madrid and Paris made a pledge to ban diesel vehicles by 2025.
The news source reported that the agreement between the mayors took place on Friday at the C40 Mayors Summit in Mexico City. The summit of C40 aims at addressing climate change throughout the planet’s major cities.
The initiative of the four megacities to ban diesel vehicles is an important one as scientists and environmentalists at the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) say that the average concentration of carbon dioxide, CO2, impacting the Earth’s atmosphere has reached new heights in 2015 accounting for some 400 parts per million and in 2016 is expecting to continue to rise to new records.
