According to data from Golden Destiny shipbrokers, Greek shipowners are slowly making their way back to the buying market, purchasing vessels for their fleets.
The data released showed that in October 2016 Greek shipowners purchased a total of 26 vessels compared to only 10 year-on-year and 10 new vessels from shipyards compared to none the previous year-on-year.
According to sources, the acquisitions resulted in the spending of 322 million euros in October alone.
There was no insight from the report as to why buying vessels has increased this past month, only that the shipowners might have been waiting to the end of the year to see if prices would drop further and saw that prices for vessels have been consistent and do not appear to be dropping anytime soon.
