Greek Government Spox: Negotiations With Institutions Will Continue Until Agreement

tzanakopoulosNegotiations between the Greek government and the institutions will continue until a political agreement is achieved on issues where the two sides diverge, government spokesman Dimitris Tzanakopoulos said at a regular press briefing on Tuesday.
“Negotiations concluded at the Hilton today and will continue until a political agreement has been achieved on issues where there are still some or significant distance between the two sides on issues such as labor rights, energy and public spending,” Tzanakopoulos said.
He added it is possible to achieve an agreement in the timetable proposed, until the Eurogroup on December 5, but this demands “strong political will from all sides,” but noted that the Greek government’s will to reach a deal does not imply the adoption of new austerity measures, or backing down on issues such as labor laws.
Commenting on developments in the Cyprus talks, he expressed his disappointment about the breakdown of the process in Geneva last night. “We declare our firm commitment to the talks, for a just and lasting solution based on international treaties and Cyprus’ status as an EU member-state,” he said.
