Centrist Potami’s MP Katerina Markou has announced her withdrawal to her post in a statement to the party’s leader Stavros Theodorakis.
Her departure from Greece’s Parliament leaves Potami with eight MPS representing the party in the 300-seat government.
Markou pointed to frustrations of Theodorakis’ unwillingness to cooperate with other parties and that she had been “suffocating” in Potami as reasons for retiring her post. She added that she intends to continue her political career as an independent MP, which is what her constituents want.
“The moment demands a realistic examination of the situation as society is on its knees and, every single reservation as regards political alliances and collaborations, wherever they may come from, appears of little significance as the country’s survival is at stake,” she said in her letter.
