First Escape by Prisoner Wearing Ankle Monitor Reported in Greece

images5The first escape by a prisoner under house arrest wearing an ankle monitor took place in Athens on Saturday evening. The escaped prisoner was a 43-year-old woman facing serious charges of fraud and embezzlement of public sector funds, illegal trade and money laundering.
Police said that the private security firm keeping track of the prisoners with ankle monitors received a signal that the 43-year-old had left her home, violating the terms of her house arrest at 18:58. A team was immediately sent to the area to follow the signal but this stopped 11 minutes later at 19:09, at the corner of Thessaloniki and Lahana in Nea Philadelphia. When the security firm team arrived at that location they found only the ankle monitor, which had been cut, but the woman was gone and is now wanted.
