Greece and Kazakhstan Continue 'Bridge of Friendship' With Archive Exchange of Deported Greeks

kazakhstan greeksAccording to Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Athens, Aleksei Volkov and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, Yannis Amanatidis, have agreed to exchange archived information on deported Greeks to Kazakhstan.
The two countries have continued to express what has been dubbed as a “bridge of friendship” as they explore the history linking the two countries concerning the Greeks who were deported to Kazakhstan during the Stalin-era. Many of the Greeks repatriated to Greece in the 1990s, however, some stayed in Kazakhstan as well. Amanatidis signed an agreement in cooperation to exploring this little-known history of Greeks in Kazakhstan.
The agreement signing took place at a meeting between the two counterparts in Athens on November 10, where they also discussed Greece’s interest to participate in the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions which is an annual event in Astana.
