UN Spokesperson: "Significant Progress Has Been Achieved" Towards Cyprus Solution

cyprus talksCyprus President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish-Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci have decided to continue their negotiations on the territory issue on November 20, in Geneva.
According to CNA sources, the two leaders, who held talks on November 7-11 in Mont Pelerin on the territory issue and outstanding issues interdependently, decided to adjourn the negotiations for one week.
Anastasiades and Akinci have been involved in UN-led peace talks since May last year, with a view to reuniting Cyprus, divided since the 1974 Turkish invasion.
A UN spokesperson in Cyprus released a written statement saying that “during these past five days, the chapter on territory and all other issues were discussed interdependently. Significant progress has been achieved.”
The spokesperson also added, “upon request of the Greek Cypriot leader, Mr. Anastasiades, it has been decided by the two leaders to take a recess and reconvene in Geneva on Sunday, November 20, 2016, to continue their deliberations.”
