Greek Officials Hope Positive Obama Statement Will Influence Eurogroup Meeting in December

obamaOn Friday government spokesperson, Dimitris Tzanakopoulos told the media at a briefing that he hopes many positive repercussions will stem from US President Obama’s visit to Athens next week.
Tzanakopoulos went on to express his hopes that President Obama’s visit to Greece will help rally support towards the issue of Greek debt relief, something in which the US Treasury Secretary, Jack Lew, has been very vocal about.
“A statement by President Obama is never just a statement, but it’s political pressure so that the issue of debt can be solved,” Tzanakopoulos said.
“We believe that the issue of Greek debt will be at the top of the agenda during Mr Obama’s visit to our country,” Tzanakopoulos said to the media.
Greece’s hopes are that on December 5, when the country’s finance minister Euclid Tsakalotos attends a scheduled meeting with his EU counterparts to discuss debt relief that he will be armed with a solid statement expressed by President Obama.
