Two Greek mayors have been shortlisted for the prestigious biennial World Mayor Award. Athens Mayor George Kaminis and his Lesbos counterpart, Spyros Galinos, are in the running, having made their way to the Top 15 mayors of the world. They are being selected via an online voting system at WorldMayor.com that closes on December 20
The two mayors are praised for their ongoing efforts in helping to tackle the refugee crisis. The last time a Greek mayor won a prize at the World Mayor Award was Dora Bakoyannis in 2005.
The project hopes to raise the profile of mayors worldwide and honor those that serve their communities by showcasing their contributions.
