This Tuesday Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will arrive in Athens to hold talks with his Greek counterpart, Nikos Kotzias and the two are expected to attend the fourth Greek-Russian Social Forum at Zappeion.
Lavrov will also be meeting with Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and President Prokopis Pavlopoulos while in Athens. The topics to be discussed between the Russian Foreign Minister and the Greek government officials range from bilateral ties and the Cyprus settlement to developments in the Mediterranean and Middle East.
According to ekathimerini.com, diplomatic sources have stated that Greece does not believe that any good will come from cutting off ties with Russia and isolating them from the issues at hand, as many countries are currently placing an increasing distance between themselves and Russia.
Lavrov and Kotzias are also expected to sign a plan detailing communications and consultations for 2017-2019 for the Greek and Russian foreign ministries.
