The military parade in Thessaloniki in celebration of October 28 (OXI day) was the most impressive in recent years, culminating the three-day festivities event that started with the Feast of Saint Dimitrios, patron saint of the city, on October 26, the date Thessaloniki was liberated from the Turks.
President of the Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos, Defense Minister Panos Kammenos and major opposition party, New Democracy, leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis attended the parade from officials’ stage.
The high flying F-16 block plus 52 “Zeus” Demo team stole the show again, during the parade. The squadron leader, Sotiris Stralis, could be heard from his cock pit addressing the crowd below: “Good morning Greece. We will fly the flag high, with great pride and deep emotions. May Thessaloniki and Greece be around for many years.”
Prior to the military parade, police were forced to push a few dozen demonstrators away from the area who were protesting home auctions.
