Visual artist, director, performer, activist and multimedia interactive artist Yoko Ono will not only be remembered for being Jon Lennon’s eternal partner, but will draw crowds with her eccentric nature. She is the big name featured at this year’s Dimitria Festival with a retrospective of her old and new works at the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art for the first time in Greece. She invites visitors to her Ex-it Installation that runs until October 23, offering a commentary on life, death, return and reincarnation.
The artist is restless, undisciplined, unclassified and uses a language that is deeply personal as she treads the line between avant-garde and conceptual, taking visitors to her display to a realm between fantasy and discipline. She fuels imaginations with Skyladders, an interactive project and dresses her works in a dreamy way. Visitors are invited to participate in numerous ways by climbing stairs, making contact with each other and come face to face with death or paint an old boat.
Yoko Ono still means “destroy convention, release the energy” and she proves this with her unique exhibition that is open on Wednesday (6 p.m.-10 p.m.), Thursday (10 a.m.-10 p.m.), Friday: (10 a.m.-7 p.m.), Saturday (10 a.m.-6 p.m.) and Sunday (11 a.m.-3 p.m.). It ends on October 23 with the destruction of 50 coffins in the outdoor space of the museum with public participation.
