Proxenos Program Offers Greek Consulate Services Online for Diaspora

consul of GreeceGreeks living abroad are welcoming a new program that will allow filing for documents and official certificates from the Greek Consulate services online. The program known as Proxenos has kicked off in pilot mode in Australia.

The aims of the Proxenos is to help curb the amount of time that Greeks abroad spend searching for paperwork when filing for birth and marriage certificates, among other services, not to mention saving money by cutting some 50,000 working hours with the new program.

“As a first step,” Christine Simantirakis, Consul General of Greece in Melbourne explained to neoskosmos.com, “we issue birth and family status certificates as long as the applicant is registered in a Greek municipal personal records database. Our services will soon extend to providing more certificates.”

Also excited about the prospects of this new service, the head of the General Secretariat for Greeks Abroad, Mr. Kokkinos added that Proxenos “is a jump in the quality of services offered by Greece’s consular services throughout the world, facilitating the lives of expatriates, offering Greeks worldwide the opportunity to get hold of official documentation from their nearest consulate, accessing central public records databases.”
