On This Day October 7, 1944: The Greek Revolt at Auschwitz [video]

Auschwitz Gate Black and White
On this day in 1944 during WWII a group of Jewish Greeks held prisoner at the Auschwitz-Birkenau Nazi concentration camp organized a revolt — the only one of its kind documented until this day — against their Nazi captors.
By singing Greek songs by Markos Vamvakaris and supposedly changing the words, the Greeks working in the crematoriums were able to communicate with each other throughout the camp and attempted several revolts.
Watch this moving documentary The Revolt of the Greek Jews from the book Greeks in Auschwitz-Birkenau by Photini Tomai, to see how on this day, October 7, 1944 the Greeks attempted their final revolt against the Nazis and sang the Greek anthem while facing their deaths.
