Crete Viewed as Best Place for Russian Cosmonauts to Recuperate

Russian cosmonauts Alexey Ovchinin and Oleg Kripochka have started an objective rehabilitation mission on Crete, an intensive program of physical recuperation following their return from the ISS after 172 days in space. They will follow a similar program to the one that had been followed by their fellow cosmonaut, Yuri Malenchenko. The program is being carried out at Anemos Grand Resort’s Aegeo Spa at Georgioupolis, Chania, northwestern Crete.
It was found that the same program had helped Malenchenko acclimatize to the conditions of earth. The program combines lifestyle and cultural elements, and Crete is viewed as an ideal place for cosmonauts to recover. The island, known for its healthy lifestyle and productive climate, is unique for its hospitality that is also incorporated into the therapy program.
The two recuperating cosmonauts will spend some days at Anemos and then take part in the unveiling ceremony of the statue of legendary Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin at Heraklion. They will also take part in various functions and immersive experiences at nearby villages.

“It is particularly important that Russian cosmonauts choose this island for their rehabilitation program. The stay of Russian cosmonauts on our island offers a wider view of Crete and of Greece all over the world and especially in Russia and Eastern Europe,” said district commissioner, Stavros Arnaoutakis.

“Crete is a beautiful island, we viewed it from space and we’re very glad we got to visit and enjoy its hospitality and beauty,” said program coordinator, Thanassis Avgerinos.

The recuperating mission was first created by veteran Roscomos physician Mikhail Potapov, who along with Greek entrepreneur and Russian correspondent, Thanassis Avgerinos, organized the initial visit by cosmonaut Fedor Yurchihin. The program is taking place with the assistance of Minas Liapakis, who runs Eyewide Digital Marketing.
