Greece Says That 'Cham Issue' Not Up for Discussion

Greece is not discussing the issue of Cham Albanians in its bilateral talks with the neighboring country, the foreign ministry said in a press release on Wednesday, responding to claims the issue is up for discussion.
“Greece is not discussing the ‘Cham’ issue nor is it negotiating with third parties the rulings of Greek courts against those who collaborated with the German occupiers. The Foreign Ministry feels obliged to refute, once again, those who argue that,” the ministry said.
Greece has proposed to Albania a discussion on a series of issues which remain open for both sides, but the Cham issue is not one of them, the ministry continued. “The Albanian side wanted it and asked for it [to be included]. The Greek side didn’t accept it,” it said.
The foreign ministry also said that the non-paper issued as a basis for bilateral talks only mentioned the Chams once, in the second paragraph of article B.2 where it stated that “in no way do we see rights for the so-called Chams,” so as to clarify that the issue is not under discussion.
