Greek Police Use Tear-Gas Against Protesting Pensioners

ximika-syntax-708Greek police used tear gas to push away protesting pensioners who were trying to approach the Maximos Mansion during a demonstration rally in central Athens.
The new pension cuts, especially for those who receive low pensions, led about 1,000 pensioners to rally against the austerity measures the Greek government is implementing. Some of them were carrying walking canes as they rallied on Monday morning shouting “Shame on you!” against the government and Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.
After demonstrating at Syntagma Square in front of the Greek Parliament, the pensioners moved towards Irodou Attikou Street where the presidential mansion is located. Protestors attempted to tip over a police bus that was blocking the street. After this incident riot police started using pepper spray to prevent the pensioners from moving closer to Maximos Mansion.
