turkish coast guard helicopterAccording to ekathimerini.com, Greek authorities have reported that a Turkish Coast Guard helicopter flew at low altitude over the Greek island of Kos in the eastern Aegean sea Thursday morning.
The incident took place after the helicopter entered the Athens Flight Information Region (FIR) at 7:10 am, exiting at 7:27 am.
During its time over Kos, the helicopter was at an altitude of only 400-500 feet, the officials have reported.
The incident is considered a major air violation and is the first of its kind since the failed military coup in Turkey on July 15. There is no further information available at this time.
Other minor violations took place on September 3 when the Hellenic National Defense General Staff (HNDGS) reported that a pair of Turkish Air Force F-16s entered the Athens FIR without submitting any flight plans resulting in one violation for air traffic regulations.
