Following a tip-off to the Greek Coast Guard a speedboat in western Greece was seized with almost a ton of marijuana onboard on Monday, according to Greek authorities.
The coast guard found 920 kilograms of marijuana on the 10-meter inflatable speedboat after it was ditched on a beach by the man onboard following a chase by sea, the coast guard said in a statement on Tuesday.
The driver of the craft was able to escape Greek authorities after ditching the boat on the beach and running off by foot in the vicinity of the town of Messolonghi.
Where the boat had come from or where it was going to in the seas of western Greece is still uncertain.
