Doctors of the World Urge Separate Accommodation for Unaccompanied Minors

The Greek division of Doctors of the World (MdM-Greece) urged the government and other involved groups to put an end to the matter of unaccompanied minors being held at Moria’s detention camp at Lesvos (Mytilene). A press release by the NGO states concern following a fight that broke out between minors on Sunday night. The doctors’ group states that 140 minors are in detention for a period that is longer than the four-month limit while newcomers are added to the growing fold.
The organization notes that despite continued efforts for more activities in the program for unaccompanied minor the prolonged stay in confinement has caused problems to the youngsters psychological state. “The increase in panic attacks among minors is indicative,” says the NGO that hopes that efforts will be intensified in regard to creating new centers for minors at a local or central level and adopting different forms of accommodation, such as foster care that is being used around Europe.
